Passion for Jula

home

The Islamic faith and culture is virtually inseparable from those who consider themselves true ethnic Jula. Their religion has shaped this people group so that the very definition of a Jula person is one who is Muslim. Even if a person is born into a Jula family, if at some point that person ceases to perform the regulations of the faith, or converts to another, they may lose their Jula identity. In essence, to be Jula is to be a Muslim.

Entrance to Bobo

The Jula, although rigorous in their obedience to Islam, are not radicals. Rather than show violence or hostility, Jula will more often simply "shut out" attempts to evangelize them, and maintain a feeling of religious superiority toward other faiths. They do not understand what it truly means to be a Christian because of past negative examples, misconceptions about the theology and practice of Christianity, and the connection of Christianity with western culture. These notions are passed down from generation to generation.
